Competition Awards
Recital Classes
The runner-up will receive a cash prize and a certificate.
The winner will receive the appropriate David Clover Trophy, a cash prize, a shield and a certificate.
Non-Recital Classes
The runner-up will receive a cash prize and a certificate.
The winner will receive the appropriate David Clover Trophy, a cash prize, a shield and a certificate during the Presentation of Awards ceremony in the afternoon of Sunday 22 March 2009. On this occasion the winner of each Non-Recital Class will sing the winning song again, in competition, for The City of Sheffield Teachers' Choir Silver Salver and prize. This will be awarded for the most outstanding performance by a winner in the Non-Recital Classes.
Additional Awards
The John Gilbert Wilson Trophy and Prize, given by Mrs. J. Hamnett in memory of her father, will be awarded to the most promising male singer between the ages of 16 and 23 in any appropriate Class.
The Don Greenfield Trophy and Prize, given by Hallam Choral Society, will be awarded to the winner of the Vocal Solo Class (age 9 to 11). This award is in memory of the life and work of Don Greenfield, conductor for many years of the Hallam Choral Society and a former member of The City of Sheffield Teachers' Choir.
The Doug Crossland Memorial Shield, given by Worrall Male Voice Choir in memory of Doug Crossland, its conductor from 1971 to 1995, will be awarded to the most promising female singer between the ages of 16 and 23 in any appropriate Class.
The Constance Shacklock Memorial Rose Bowl, given by Ralph Green in memory of Constance Shacklock, who was President of the City of Sheffield Teachers' Choir from 1985 to 1999, will be awarded for the most outstanding operatic performance during the Competition.
The Kathleen Walker Award, in memory of Kathleen Walker, who was a founder member of the City of Sheffield Teachers' Choir, and musical director of several operatic societies in Sheffield, will be awarded to the winner of the Musical and Operetta Class (age 18 and under).
The City of Sheffield Teachers' Choir Silver Salver and Prize, given by Ann Durrant, a member of The Teachers' Choir for over twenty years, will be awarded for the most outstanding performance by a winner in the Non-Recital Classes.
The Michael Peaker Memorial Trophy is given by Worrall Male Voice Choir in memory of Michael Peaker, of his contribution as accompanist and conductor, and as organist at St. Matthias's Church, Stocksbridge. The award will be given for the most outstanding performance, by anyone aged 18 or under, of an aria from an oratorio, or of a sacred song, during the Competition.
The Edith and Ronald Batty Salvers, given by Valerie and Geoff Littledyke in memory of Valerie's parents, will be presented to the most promising female and male singers, aged 15 and under, in any appropriate Classes. The Edith Batty Salver will go to the female singer and the Ronald Batty to the male singer.
